ABOUT Maya Wakabayashi
Maya Wakabayashi was born in 1983 to a glass artist father. Since she was a child, she has been fascinated by the fascination and diversity of expression of glass, which has both polarities of vivid colors and transparency, delicacy and strength, and which is not found in any other medium. In 2007, he entered the Department of Crafts at Tokyo University of the Arts to study the forging technique, which forges sheet metal directly with a hammer, and especially the drawing technique, which forges sheet metal and enables the creation of hollow yet robust forms. In 2013, he graduated from the graduate school of Tokyo University of the Arts, majoring in metal forging. Since his enrollment, he has consistently been interested in "invisible entities" such as the spirit and the mind, and his works are inspired by the similarity of images that people have of nature. Currently, he is showing his works mainly in solo exhibitions at galleries and at art fairs in Japan and abroad.
