ABOUT Yayoi Kusama

He is probably the most famous avant-garde artist in Japan. He has been creating fantastical works since his childhood and has been based in the United States since 1957. His works with flamboyant polka dots are representative of his work, and his appearance, way of life, and many other aspects of his work have been the talk of the town. His collaboration with Louis Vuitton has also become a topic of conversation.
His popularity at auctions in Japan and abroad is outstanding. His large works are consistently sold for hundreds of millions of yen. In Japan and other Asian countries, concrete works with pumpkins and flowers as motifs are popular, but in Europe and the United States, abstract works with dots (polka dots), nets (meshes), etc. are more popular. Many department stores in Japan carry his works, and many people are surprised at the prices of his small-sized originals. The high quality of his prints has led to many of his prints recently selling for over 1 million yen at auctions. Especially since the beginning of 2013, prices have skyrocketed dramatically.
