Writers Comments:
I saw this scene at a riverside in my neighborhood. The fresh green young grass was dominating the river bank, and there were black birds there. Several birds were swimming in the river and others on the shore were trying to follow them. I later found out that the bird was an ooban, and before the summer of the same year, I went to Holland and England, where I also saw this bird. After returning to Japan, I completed a print of this bird that I had seen many times in various countries. I used oil-based ink for the grass part, and printed it so that the unique gloss and thickness of the ink could be felt.
Signed, numbered and titled.
Not framed, sold as a sheet only

ABOUT Haruna Niiya
Concept of Artwork
The motifs I depict are the small joys I encounter while observing nature around me. Using a silkscreen, I slowly build up the image through repeated plate-making and printing, and the small joys I felt take on images and reappear as new landscapes. It is a very personal and small thing to be able to love the creatures and nature around us, but to be able to notice this is a very happy thing. I paint pictures and make things while searching for what the richness of life means to me.
