ABOUT Kadosaka Ryu
Ryu Kadosaka (1948-2014) was a printmaker and illustrator.
He began pencil and pen drawings in 1973 and produced drawings mainly for book bindings, magazine illustrations, and other graphic-related work.
Attracted by the expression of line in copperplate engraving, he began making prints in 1985. He has been drawing since 1985. Kadosakas world is connected by parallel lines that do not intersect. He taught himself the "engraving" technique, the oldest of all copperplate engraving techniques, and pursued its expression. This technique is also used in the printing of banknotes, and surprisingly, Kadosaka draws up to 10 lines within a width of 1 mm.
He established a studio in Machida, and approximately 250 of his prints are in the collection of the Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts.
