ABOUT Bernard Buffet
Bernard Buffet is a French painter who represents the postwar figurative painting world. He studied painting in occupied Paris during World War II and developed his own style with rigid outlines and subdued, almost monotone colors. His motifs of figures, landscapes, still lifes, and flowers are powerful and stylish, yet deeply spiritual.
The Bernard Buffet Museum, which was introduced early in Japan and boasts the world’s largest buffet collection, is located in Nagaizumi-cho, Shizuoka Prefecture, on Clematis Hill.
