ABOUT Julian Opie
Julian Opie is one of the UK’s leading contemporary artists. He has attracted a high level of attention since his debut show, and his works have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. His works are characterized by simplified depictions of people and landscapes. The figures are framed with thick black lines, and in close-up portraits, the eyes are represented as small black dots. Although all of Opie’s figures are drawn with only dots and lines, the faces are both delicate and dynamic, and are very much concentrated with the individuality of the model, making them only one and only faces that can only be painted by Opie. The work is casual, yet has a high quality and sophistication as a painting. Opie’s works are in the collections of major museums around the world, including the Tate Modern in London, MOMA in New York, and the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, Japan.
