ABOUT Masaaki Suzuki
In 2005, he won the Grand Prix of the Shell Art Award, one of the gateways to success for young artists. Suzuki, who is attracting attention both in Japan and abroad, paints street corners at night. Streetlights floating softly in the darkness and lights leaking from houses. People standing by the roadside. These cool, yet somehow sentimental landscapes evoke memories of the nighttime streets in each viewer’s mind. The distinctive light in the picture gives the viewer a strange sensation as if he or she is being absorbed into the scene.
