ABOUT Lucio Fontana
The artist’s work is symbolized by a torn canvas.
Many of you may have some impression of his work, as it is often featured in the media as a symbol of the inexplicability of contemporary art. Born in Milan to a sculptor father and an Argentine mother, he created his first work with holes in canvas in 1949, which was given the title "Spatial Concept CONCETTO SPAZIALE. It became the title of a subsequent series. The work, with its eerie cracks in the primary-colored canvas that looms before the viewer’s eyes, is said to have given light to the taciturn existence of the canvas.
As a deceased artist, the number of works in circulation has dwindled, making them difficult to find, and prices for large canvases have never fallen below several million dollars.
