ABOUT Tigar Tateishi
Tiger Tateishi was born in Fukuoka Japan in 1941. He began his art activities when he entered Musashino Art Junior College and moved to Tokyo. His activities ranged from painter, cartoonist, picture book artist, and ceramic artist. Just as he was beginning to get on track as a cartoonist, he suddenly moved to Italy. There he was involved in architecture, design, and illustration, in addition to his art activities. "Changing the environment is what stimulates creativity. I refuse to settle down in one place and be satisfied with the status quo." This was Tateishi’s motto until the end of his life. He died of illness in 1998.
Tiger Tateishi’s manga-like "frame-by-frame" paintings and surrealistic, nonsensical style are overflowing with the power to break away from the existing framework of art.
