When trying to “clearly depict” something I don’t fully understand, chaos emerges.
There is no true beginning, nor any end in sight, and nothing is apparent in the middle either.
If I intend to drift without sinking, it is both a matter of will and yet, not entirely so.
Standing amidst the light snow, the vast three-thousandfold world, and within it, the gentle snow falls - Ryōkan
Beautiful—this is everything.
Walls Tokyo will hold Tsunemasa Takahashi’s second solo exhibition from December 5, 2024, to January 18, 2025.
Tsunemasa Takahashi was born in Tokyo in 1949. After studying at Sokei Academy of Fine Art & Design, he traveled to Europe, where he studied under Ernst Fuchs and Rudolf Hausner, central figures of the Vienna School. Upon his return to Japan, he began working as an illustrator while also showcasing his artwork in solo exhibitions and other venues as a painter.

While painting is generally seen as an intentional act, Takahashi currently finds himself within a state of chaos, drifting without resistance rather than struggling, navigating between the subjective and objective with no clear destination in sight.
A penguin lost in a scorching desert accepts its harsh fate and continues its small steps without stopping, wandering on.
In this second exhibition at Walls Tokyo, Takahashi’s own studio tables and art supplies will be on display, creating a vibrant, dynamic space where his new works will be unveiled.
