I carry everything and everyone.
I do rescue flights and secret flights.
I'm happy to fly freely, even though it's an old airplane.
I like to soar over the tops of trees with my wings, or soar over rivers with a plume of water.
I like to turn off the engine when I'm in the stratosphere, where the stars are faintly visible, and then slowly drop down.

Walls Tokyo is pleased to present "Treetop flyer," a solo exhibition by Tsunemasa Takahashi.

 

Tsunemasa Takahashi was born in Tokyo in 1949. After studying at Sokei Academy of Fine Art and Design, he went to Europe to study under Ernst Fuchs and Rudolf Hausner, who were core members of the Vienna School.
After returning to Japan, he began working as an illustrator, and at the same time, exhibited his works as a painter in solo exhibitions.
With a thorough knowledge of various painting techniques, Takahashi continues to pursue "painting" and is able to handle any job with his painting ability backed by his technique and imaginative expression cultivated by his knowledge, establishing a one-of-a-kind world view that is unrivaled and only possible because of his vast production volume.
His somewhat humorous style shows the confidence and cheerfulness of a man who refuses to fit himself into a mold, and who has crossed the muddy path of painting with just one arm.
In his work, there is a freedom that can only be acquired by someone who has accumulated such experience, who has the ability to be critical and tolerant, while at the same time putting all his energy into his work.
As if to demonstrate the beauty in the world that can only be found by taking a detour, Takahashi continues to pursue the possibilities in artistic expression.

 

This exhibition will provide an overview of Tsunemasa Takahashi′s work from the 1980s to recent years.
