2021.10.1 fri - 11.6 sat

From October 1st Walls Tokyo will hold Yoko Hiramaru s solo exhibition for the first time. Yoko Hiramaru graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 2002 with a degree in painting. Hiramaru’s abstract paints in an abstract style, depicting everyday scenes and events. — The moment you notice the light, the sounds, the smells of the air, and the seasonal changes brought about by the growth of plants, do you ever have that feeling of losing yourself and transcending time and space? In nature, no two moments are the same. When we suddenly notice the changes in nature brought about by the earth, that existence is beyond comprehension. Known also as the Creator, this being only hints at its existence, never fully revealing itself. Hiramaru may have chosen abstraction as an approach to depict something that is not clearly visible to the eye but still exists. Just as the arabesque pattern* does. Perhaps the reason why she uses patterns they are a refined form of abstraction, a purified expression of the life cycle. It is as if she is trying to tell the story of a phenomenon that cannot be described in the form of paintings. Hiramaru's paintings transcend the perception of abstraction and emerge as a "language" that only a painting can speak, a "language" that can describe the world. Hiramaru s paintings show us how rich that special language can be. *Arabesque pattern Islam, which forbids the painting of human figures, is said to express the unifying element, permanence, and order behind nature through geometric patterns called arabesques.
