Yasuyoshi Tokida

Yasuyoshi Tokida

My work begins with a small drawing. They are very simple drawings made in a matter of seconds, based on a few rules, based on what I see in the form of objects, including photographs and printed matter. These line drawings are the beginning of small works that I do not fully understand. After some time has passed since they were drawn, they are selected again when I have forgotten about them, and when several of them are gathered together, they finally take "shape" and become a woodblock print work for the first time. In other words, my work is a process of engaging with these objects over time and at a distance. In recent years, in addition to these drawings, I have been making collages of colored paper cutouts and woodblock prints based on these collages.
