About

katsura Funakoshi

Katsura Funakoshi, born in 1951, is one of Japan’s leading sculptors. Since his early days in 1980, he has consistently carved human figures out of camphor wood. The statues, painted in camphor wood and inlaid with marble eyes, are silent and graceful, staring off into the distance with mixed emotions of sorrow, resignation, anger, and peacefulness. Many people around the world are fascinated by his presence.
