Introducing Artists
About
Mayumi Oku
After resigning from a design office in 2002, Mayumi Oku began creating and exhibiting her artwork. Her works span a wide range of media, including two-dimensional art, sculpture, installations, video art, zines, and performances. In a collaborative exhibition with musician HARCO, she first created paintings, which then inspired HARCO to compose music based on them, and vice versa. This approach received positive feedback. In 2006, Oku held a residency and solo exhibition at a gallery in Mexico, and around that time, themes of ethnographic elements and spirits sensed in nature began to frequently appear in her work. She creates art using various methods to explore nature itself or the "invisible but definitely perceptible something" felt within it.
