Tsunemasa Takahashi「Treetop flyer」 2023.8.17 thu - 9.2 sat, Holding of the exhibition

- I m an on-board airplane flying at the height of a tree. -
I carry everything, I carry all kinds of people.
I do rescue flights and secret flights.
Its a rundown airplane, but I m happy to fly freely.
I like to soar over the tops of trees with my wings, or fly over rivers with a plume of water in the air.
I like to turn off the engine when I m in the stratosphere, where the stars are faintly visible, and slowly fall down.
--Tsunemasa Takahashi
Walls Tokyo is pleased to present "Treetop flyer," a solo exhibition by Tsunemasa Takahashi.
Tsunemasa Takahashi was born in Tokyo in 1949. After studying at Sogei School of Fine Arts, he went to Europe to study under Ernst Fuchs and Rudolf Hausner, who were core members of the Vienna School.
After returning to Japan, he began working as an illustrator, and at the same time, exhibited his works as a painter in solo exhibitions.
With a thorough knowledge of various painting techniques, Takahashi has been pursuing the art of "painting" and has established a one-of-a-kind world view that is unrivaled in the world, made possible only by his enormous volume of work.
His somewhat humorous style shows the confidence and cheerfulness of a man who refuses to fit himself into a mold, and who has crossed the muddy path of painting with just one arm.
In his work, there is a freedom that can only be acquired by someone who has accumulated such experience, who has the ability to be critical and tolerant, while at the same time putting all his energy into his work.
As if to demonstrate the beauty in the world that can only be found by taking a detour, Takahashi continues to pursue the possibilities in artistic expression.
This exhibition will provide an overview of Tsunemasa Takahashi work from the 1980s to recent years.
We look forward to your visit.
