柿崎覚 展「響き合う色と光」 2023.6.22 thu-7.8 sat 開催

この度、Walls Tokyo では2回目となる柿崎覚(かきざき・がく)の個展を開催する運びとなりました。

Walls Tokyo is pleased to announce the second solo exhibition of Gaku Kakizaki.

Kakizaki was born in Tokyo in 1981. He studied oil painting at Musashino Art University and completed his masters degree in 2012.

With a fine touch using a palette knife, he mainly paints oil paintings with motifs of familiar landscapes and still life.

While the last exhibition focused on the Koishikawa Botanical Garden, Kakizaki says that he created the works shown in this exhibition with a focus on natural phenomena such as light, shadow, and reflections, going beyond location.

However, looking at Kakizakis paintings, it seems to me that what he is trying to capture is not the subtle changes in color produced by light and shadow or the mystery of all things, but rather the rhythm of colors woven by nature.

What about replacing what Kakizaki calls "light, shadow, and reflection" with "rhythm, reverberation, and melody" as it were?
Indeed, his way of painting, in which he does not make preliminary sketches, but instead expands from a single spot, is like improvised music.

And the fact that he played music in a band before he chose to paint, I think it is fair to say, confirms the connection between these paintings and music.

We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy the world depicted by Gaku Kakizaki, with his rhythmic touch and screens that seem to be enveloped by sound.
