Walls Tokyo is pleased to present "visible and invisible," a solo exhibition by Shun Kawakami.

Shun Kawakami, who continues to create works that incorporate traditional Japanese aesthetics and design perspectives, is always interested in the expression of the visible and invisible.

Invisible aesthetic senses and expressions, such as margins and Ｍitate, which are said to have been established in the Azuchi–Momoyama period, are placed at the root of the awareness of artwork creation, as well as the taste in the humble and simple wabi and sabi. The beauty of the changes that appear with the passage of time is woven into a variety of forms. By combining this classical beauty with modern visual expression and printing techniques, traditional craft techniques, and digital and craft techniques and methods, he creates works in which unique real and imaginary images coexist.

Visible beauty and invisible aesthetics flow between Japanese ancient and contemporary art. Also, the history spun by the activities of mankind and the passage of time, and the changes in the natural environment that are never positive. This exhibition will showcase the search for expression that finds the beauty that should connect the past, the present, and the future, and fuse them into a single work of art.
